Dom – Dry The River
11 Apr
My weekend was one of those weekends where all the crap that life is throwing at you might as well be roses because of the company you chose to keep. Luckily, I keep the kind of people around who bitch with me, or laugh with me, or simply remain silent and understanding when the moment requires it. They are amazing and I owe my current sanity to them. Today’s post is for them, because much like new music, friends can take you places and show you things you would have never noticed on your own.
Ok, sappy stuff over, today we have Dom. There has been a crap ton of buzz about this guy and after investigating over the weekend, I can see why. Not only because his life story is triumphant and tragic (foster care, juvy etc) but also because like so many of us who dig for music and relish in it’s ability to eat right into our soul, he escapes through it. He is pop at it’s finest, an escape that makes you look to the trees and bop your head while forgetting about all the negative. Yums.
Dry the River pick up the rear with a sound that instantly reminded me of Antony and the Johnsons. Only FAR less annoying. Yes, I am ONE of those few people that can’t stand Antony and his seemingly forced whining. I just can’t do it. When Dry the River’s Peter Liddle releases similar noises from his mouth hole, they seem natural and fluid and almost… endearing. They give a life to the lyrics similar to the world’s best ballads… it has heart. I am an instant fan.
Also, check out the beard on the xylophone/guitarist, impressive.
Happy Monday lovelies <3
