Old Old Fashioned and Swim Until You Can’t See Land.
20 Dec
Happy Monday! Well… Happy Monday for me, as the only profession that rules all during the holidays is teaching. Blamo. Two weeks off. In order to kick off the festivities, I give you the gift of my most favoritest band in the world of bands.
I was going to wait before I exploded with my obsession all over this poor little blog o’ mine… but I can’t hold back.
I LOVE FRIGHTENED RABBIT.
I love them so much that I followed them around in October to two shows… anyone who knows me, knows that I do NOT do repeat performances of anything. The exception was made as they are from Scotland (and therefore will rarely grace Florida) and because they are FUCKING AMAZING.
The last time I fell in love with a band this hard it was in 2001… ahhhh Postal Service. When my true love of music was not just set on fire but nuclear bombed.
I first listened to these guys with the album, “Liver!Lung!FR!” which is their live album. Let me say this now, I HATE live albums… but this was amazeballs so I made an exception. I now prefer that album over all the rest. Here is my love from that one…
Then came “The Winter of Mixed Drinks” … I was terrified, just as I would be if Postal Service did a second album. I didn’t think they could keep me as ecstatic as I had been with my original find… but alas, it was still the stuff of gods. You’re welcome, universe.
(Yes, I did notice that the majority of the band are well equipped with facial hair and plaid, I feel the need to indicate that I did not SEE them until long after falling in love with every word on their album)
Either way, these boys are getting noticed and will not doubt be gobbled up by large venues in no time. The next time I see them I probably won’t be able to hear myself singing along and I probably won’t be able to ask them how they got to be so fantastical after the show. But I will still be there.
